It is associated with spring, symbolizing beauty and renewal. Cleopatra had a huge fondness for Emerald, and the oldest one was found 2.97 billion years ago, in South Africa. It is the birthstone for May, and celebrates the 55th wedding anniversary. Emerald has a hardness of 7.5-8.0. Although it has a good hardness, the toughness is pretty low.
