MINT GARNET
Mint Garnet is a green variety of garnet, cousins to the Tsavorite. It has a refreshing, soft mint color that reminds one of springtime. A handful of these garnets have a slight blue modifying color, which makes these gems even more outstanding and appreciated by the collector. Mint garnet was discovered in the 1980’s, in the pockets of tanzanite mines in the Merelani region of Tanzania. Gemstones over two carats in weight are uncommon and prized. Mint garnet is considered to be a very spiritual stone, bringing serenity and passion. Garnet is the birthstone for January, and the gemstone for Aquarius and Aries. It is the gem for the 2nd, 15th and 19th anniversaries. Mint garnets have fair to good toughness, and a hardness of 7.25-7.50. They require special care and are not suited for everyday wear. BLUE TOURMALINE
Blue tourmaline is an unusual and lively variety of tourmaline. It has a rich blue that is unlike any other. The blue tourmaline featured above hails from Afghanistan, where it is very difficult to get material out due to immense turmoil. True “blue” is one of the rarest tourmaline colors. These stones are usually found in smaller sizes, under one carat. Tourmaline is the birthstone for October, and marks the 8th wedding anniversary. It has a hardness of 7.0-7.5, making it very durable for everyday wear with proper care. More about Tourmaline HERE
